  • Use the right hand with left hand touching the right elbow while giving or receiving something to/ from someone.
  • Try to say some words in Burmese language even if you can't pronounce correctly, then you will have appreciation smile from local people.
  • Touching head of an adult is considered as an insult whereas it's a gesture of love and affection to a child.
  • Using legs while showing or pointing something to somebody is very offensive manner.
  • While sitting in a religious complex, avoid stretch out your legs towards Buddha image.
  • Better ask permission if you try to take a portrait of someone.
  • When you are in someone's house, try to eat or drink some amount if the host offers something especially with poor family.
  • Any type of foot-wearings even completely new ones except socks is prohibited inside a building either religious or ordinary.
  • Take off your foot-wearings including socks before you enter in a religious compound even if it's muddy, wet, hot, dusty or in any disgusting condition Or, you are not obliged to enter inside.
  • Take off your shoes before you enter in a house, socks are normally allowed.
  • Not always necessary to shake hands.
  • You shouldn't offer to shake hands with a monk unless he offers you.
  • For couples, please avoid hugging or kissing in public.
  • Tap water is not safe to drink even in 5 stars hotels.
  • Do not put your hand on the widow frame as window shutter can fall down in any minute as train vibrates too much.
  • Even though tipping is not compulsory, it's highly appreciated as service recognition in hotel and tourism field.
